Jordan wines are made in a more European style that allows them to pair well with a broad range of foods. Their winemaking emphasizes the wine’s fruit and acidity rather than alcohol and tannin, and achieving elegance and balance in the bottle drives all that their staff of 80 do in the vineyards and cellar.
Nearly 1,200 acres surround the Jordan Winery Chateau where the grapes that are used in the wines you'll be enjoying are grown. More than three-quarters of the land remains wild, open spaces that myriad animals and plants call home. Preserving natural habitat and conserving resources are two tenets in Jordan's sustainability efforts. The winery runs almost entirely on solar energy, and our vineyards are certified Sonoma County Sustainable.
Far Niente Winery was founded in 1885 by John Benson, a forty-niner of the California gold rush and uncle of the famous American impressionist painter, Winslow Homer. It functioned as a gravity flow winery, gently moving the grapes through each stage of production. Far Niente, from an Italian phrase that romantically translated means “without a care,” was found carved in stone on the front of the building where it remains to this day.
