Lots of Fun with Finnegans Wake: James Joyce’s Final Masterpiece

Finnegans Wake is the most radical experiment in the history of literature, a “childream’s” book that reimagines language itself. The illustrated talk will follow the evolution of Joyce’s style into its astonishing final form in his “book of the dark” as his eyesight deteriorated and Europe descended into war with “Hit-her.” Yet despite its forbidding surface, Finnegans Wake is packed with jokes and humor. “In shorts” this Wake is Joyce’s “funferal.” So “tap up his bier!” and come join “the four of them, and the roar of them . . . and the round of them agrog” to decide for yourself whether Ireland’s greatest writer’s last and most ambitious work was just “the twoddle of the fuddled, O!” or, as Joyce himself believed, really his best.
Come join us for a pint and learn about Ireland's most revered writer. Complimentary small bites will be served from 2pm with the illustrated talk starting about 2:30pm. There will be time for questions and discussion afterwards.
The event will take place in the informal setting of The Field Pub's Music Room. This is not a theatre and seating and views vary. Please share tables with others to facilitate better viewing for all guests.
